Mission and Vision

To create a community where all LGBTQ+ residents and visitors in Orange County feel safe, respected, and supported, free from discrimination and victimization.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office Safe Place Initiative empowers the LGBTQ+ community by providing accessible safety information and a network of designated Safe Places where individuals can seek refuge and immediate assistance if they are victims of crime or bullying. This is achieved through:

  • Establishing visible Safe Place locations throughout Orange County by partnering with businesses, organizations, and County buildings to display recognizable decals and signage.
  • Ensuring prompt law enforcement response, including direct connection to 911 services, for anyone seeking help at a Safe Place location.
  • Fostering strong relationships with the LGBTQ+ community through dedicated liaison deputies who provide support, resources, and address community concerns.

Program Outline:

Displaying the OCSO Safe Place symbol carries some important responsibilities that will greatly assist in protecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+) victims of crime.

These LGBTQ+ victims will recognize that the Safe Place symbol indicates your business or organization is willing to assist them. By registering as a Safe Place in Orange County, you agree to:

  • Apply the Safe Place decal outside the front entrance of your establishment. If there is no glass at your front entrance, a Safe Place poster can be placed conspicuously inside.
  • Allow these victims to enter and remain at your premise until deputies arrive.
  • Call, or assist these victims in calling 911.
